The smell project is an attempt to visualize smells and their connection to our memories. the first part of the project includes 3D typographical smell portraits of my grandpa, boyfriend and sister. Each portrait is realized through four smell sources that together assemble the unique smell identity of their subject. The smell portraits are created with different experimental techniques that symbolize yet another aspect of their subject. the second part of “the smell project” is the results of a research concerning our smell memory; questions such as: what is the smell of your home? or, what smell do you associate with war and death? were presented to 30 people, their answers were collected and divided to create several hand made illustrated booklets.
